Park City Getaway

So this year I am privileged to have been chosen to attend this "Associates Program" through my school district. Basically, it's a fancy way of saying I get to go to meetings. I went with my principal, Michael, and a sixth grade teacher, Kelly. Lucky for me the meetings are at various locations throughout Utah. This last meeting was in GORGEOUS Park City and let's just say they spoiled us. I stayed in a room by myself that normally costs $1,000 a night!
I was nervous to leave my students for a sub, especially for two straight days. I have some kids this year that really like to push their boundaries, so, just like they were my own kids, I worried about them most of the time I was there. Luckily I was able to relax for a little bit and take in the beauty that was my two days away from work!
Thursday I got up there early (8am) for meetings. I checked into my room before my meetings started and all I could say over and over was, "Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!" I walked into to a full kitchen, a breakfast nook, granite countertops, a breathtaking view off my personal balcony, a king sized bed, a jacuzzi in my room, and a steam shower. Let's just say I was sad I would only be spending one night there!
I had meetings until about 2 pm on Thursday then we went on a little field trip to the Olympic Park. I didn't get a chance to come to Utah during the 2002 Winter Games, so I was glad they took us to see some of the sights. We got to watch the Freestyle Aerial jumpers practice. They would go off the jumps and land in a pool of water. An interesting note was that they blow air into the pool to create bubbles for a softer landing surface. They had the Chinese team, American team, and Canadian team there practicing. We also got to see the regular Aerial practice jumps and some 12 year olds practicing. I was truly in awe at what these young kids were doing. They said they start kids at 4 or 5 going off the aerial jumps! Lastly we saw the Bobsled and Luge tracks. It was hard to try to picture them covered in ice with sleds going down them at about 80 mph. In the winter you can go up there and take a luge ride with a professional driver for about $200. If I only had an extra $200 lying around!
That night we went to dinner on Main Street (one of my favorite parts of Park City). Dinner was good but it took 2 1/2 hours for us to eat because there were so many of us! Afterwards Michael, Kelly and I got carmel apples at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I ate mine as I sat in the jacuzzi and watched Grey's Anatomy (could it get better than that?) After that I wrapped up in the complimentary robe and relaxed.
The next day was filled with meetings, but afterwards I hit up the outlet mall, which was having outrageous sales! Then it was home for an hour to pack for St. George! I can't wait to go back to Park City in about a month! (Did I mention I get to go every other month? Life is tough!)
