Thanksgiving Thoughts

As Thanksgiving day approaches, I would like list a few of the things that truly make me happy to be in this beautiful world, in no particular order:

1) Family: people who are there for you no matter what. Share my joys, cry with me, and support me no matter what crazy idea I may come up with. They love me silly, they love me sad, they love me forever and for always.

2) The Gospel: The knowledge that I am a Child of God and that I have an elder brother who died for me anchors me every day. The Plan of Happiness and of eternal families makes me hopeful in an ever increasingly doom ridden world. How blessed I am to know what I know and to be able to worship how I choose.

3) Work: Although this year has been harder than the past two, I still love my job and my students. My daily interactions with them teach me patience, love, and the innocence of childhood. Many have experienced things I can only imagine (and try not to), but their insatiable hunger for knowledge is inspiring. Oh, to be young again. I am also luck to work where I work and with the people I work with.

4) My Health: Despite a few weird ailments this year, I have been fairly healthy. I can run, sing, dance, walk, etc. I can breathe and see, and touch and smell. Let's hope for a dose of the same in 2009.

5) Friends: Good friends are the fabric of life. I have been blessed with great friends, and have made many new friends over the last year. I can be myself around my friends, and yes, they still love me!

6) Trials and Disappointments: What? Did I really just say that? Although they test me at times, the lessons learned are always worth the trial. It's just trying to remember the lesson the next time is what is difficult at times. This past year has been pretty trial free (compared to others), but that's not to say that it hasn't had it's ups and downs.

7) Emotions: This might be a wild card, but as of recently I have realized what a blessing being able to feel emotion is. The highs and lows, sadness, utter delight, the giddiness of anticipation, simply feeling silly, Heavenly Father sure knew what he was doing and I'm so thankful for it.

8) This holiday Season: Hard to believe that Christmas is only 3.5 weeks away. I have been listening to Christmas music since Halloween! I am thankful for this time of year and the opportunity I have to reflect, set goals, and to remember the real reason for the season!

Hope this Thanksgiving finds you all healthy, happy, and homeward bound. Oh, and with a full belly!
